How to analyze a competitor's Shopify store in 30 minutes

Sample content: figures and prices to be verified before publication
The short answerStart with the store itself (theme, apps, products), then its active ads, then its emails by signing up for its newsletter, and finish with its traffic. TrendTrack covers all four steps; Koala Inspector and Similarweb cover one each.

Step 1: the store (5 minutes)

With an extension like Koala Inspector or the TrendTrack one, note the theme, the installed apps (reviews, upsell, email marketing) and the featured products. The apps tell you a lot about the stack and the budget.

Step 2: the ads (10 minutes)

Open the Meta Ad Library or the TrendTrack ad library. Note the ads that have been running for a long time: an ad that has been live for weeks is a profitable ad.

Step 3: the emails (5 minutes + a few days)

Sign up for the newsletter and add a product to your cart without buying. You'll get the welcome flow and the abandoned cart flow. TrendTrack already archives them for many brands.

Step 4: the traffic (5 minutes)

Similarweb gives you a ballpark of the traffic and its breakdown: search, social, direct.

Step 5: the summary (5 minutes)

Question Where to find the answer
Which product drives the brand? Featured products + longest-running ads
How does it acquire customers? Traffic sources + ad volume
How does it bring them back? Email flows + loyalty program
